THE CAMP FACILITY The Camp Independence session will be held at Torino Ranch located in southern Nevada. The camp has an outdoor swimming pool, rock climbing, archery range, Ga-Ga pit, swimming lake, arts and crafts center. In addition, the camp will be staffed with a round the clock nursing staff.
HISTORY Camp Independence was founded in 2003. The Camp Independence staff works closely with the Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada and Torino Foundation to bring a camp session that is SAFE, FUN, AND EDUCATIONAL for our campers. Camp Independence is here to serve the children and adolescents affected by bleeding disorders in southern and northern Nevada. Campers and counselors come from all over California, Arizona, Nevada and across the United States to enjoy the outdoors and to grow together as a family in the bleeding disorders community.
CABIN ASSIGNMENTS Campers are assigned to boys or girls cabins, grouped together by age and school grade, where their camp counselors guide them through the routine and non-routine of camp life. As a general rule, siblings will not be assigned to the same cabins. We create ample opportunities throughout the day for campers to foster friendships with other campers in other cabins. MEALS Nutritious meals will be provided three times a day with healthy snacks available throughout the day. Special dietary needs will also be honored. Please notify Camp Independence of any special dietary needs on your child’s camp application. THE CAMP INDEPENDENCE PROGRAM Our camp is designed to allow children with special medical needs the opportunity to experience camping and a variety of other traditional camp activities. Because every child at camp will be affected by bleeding disorders in some way, they can easily feel accepted and part of a group. The supportive environment at camp becomes a perfect place for healthy living and wellness guidance. Camp Independence stresses personal independence and community spirit. Siblings and friends become an important part of the caring community when they share the common experience of Camp Independence.
